This past Saturday night, shortly after Martin St. Louis's double-overtime goal to force game seven, Bridgeport, CT's
Zambonis took the stage at the Living Room on the Lower East Side for a late-night / early-morning set of songs about their favorite sport and ours.
The performance space at the Living Room's new digs (154 Ludlow) is great, though it lacks some of the old joint's character. It's better suited to mellower acts than the 'Bonis, too -- the room is furnished coffeehouse-style with tables and chairs, and a seated crowd is a subdued crowd. Still, these game hockey rockers were entertaining as usual, and even passed around chocolate as a reward to the audience for staying out late.
The famous Hockey Monkey was also in the house, wearing a vintage Blackhawks sweater over his original fur suit for the last time, according to Zamboni frontman Dave Schneider.
"We bought a new monkey suit," he said, noting that it set them back more than the Replacements spent on recording their 1985 major-label debut
Tim.
New York Zambonis fans can catch them next month in Brooklyn. If you go, look for me.
