ESPN.com reports that
Steve Montador and Steve Reinprecht are suiting up in France to play in one of Europe's dinkier leagues.
Paul Heyberger, the president of the Steves' new team, the
Mulhouse Scorpions, described the thrill of landing a pair of NHL stars with a particularly unhelpful analogy for North American sports fans. "It's the cherry on the cake. It's like Zinedine Zidane joining a small French soccer club like Dijon," Heyberger said. "It's the same sort of impact."
I realize soccer's a big deal other places, but for my frame of reference, this analogy is pretty goddamned obscure. To put it another way, it's like Erich Heckel contributing illustrations to your zine! It's like Dave Arneson DMing your RPG session!
