Our Vancouver correspondent Dave Jackson says that though the reality series
"Making the Cut" ends soon, Canadians may not have to give up hockey-themed "reality TV" just yet.
The CBC and six other Vancouver television stations filed a joint application to
televise Todd Bertuzzi's assault trial. (Jackson wonders idly if Bertuzzi might become a kind of Canadian O.J., "except without the white Bronco. Or the murder. Or Johnny Cochrane.")
In other news from the Canadian west, three hockey fans in Edmonton are saying that the lockout shouldn't preclude a Stanley Cup championship this year. The guys behind
the "Free Stanley" site argue that the Cup was intended for the best team in Canada, and if NHL teams aren't going to compete for it, it should be awarded to whatever team can win it in its original challenge cup format.
Speaking to the CBC, Edmonton fan Tom Thurston said
"it is a lark but it's a serious lark." Does he contradict himself? Very well, then. Thurston is large, he contains multitudes.
