NY1 had a
piece about
the New York City Gay Hockey Association yesterday, which is now online with streaming video. The league is reportedly 30 percent straight, so it might be more accurately called an explicitly gay-friendly league.
Wondering how the GHA's straight quotient compares to the percentage of gay and closeted NHLers? There's no telling, obviously. But according to
this interview, there's at least one "established and well-known player" who's out to three teammates.
Here's a pretty good
ESPN feature on gay hockey in Boston. I only say "pretty good" because the author lacks a little restraint. He can't resist clarifying, when a player talks about his willingness to "butt-end with [his] stick," that "he's referring to a common tactic in which the player exposes the end of his stick to spear an opponent."
The NYCGHA has also been featured on
The Daily Show, and a link to that video is on the front page of the league's site. I haven't watched either video because they're RealPlayer files.
