Picking Teams, New Rules

You probably saw that Jeremy Roenick wanted Sidney Crosby to go to New York, lottery schmottery. But CBS's Wes Goldstein says the Penguins — who ended up with the Number One pick — need him more desperately.

A reminder of how the picking order was established: Each team was allotted three balls for one of those balls-in-a-hopper-style lotteries. For every appearance a team made in the post-season between 2001/02 and 2003/04, one of their balls was taken away. No team lost more than two balls, so nobody went through the lottery ball-less. Pittsburg was one of the three-balled teams with the best chance of getting first pick, along with the Buffalo Sabres, Columbus Blue Jackets and New York Rangers. Just Wide's favorite team, Detroit, was in the Lance Armstrong club, if you know what we mean.

You wanted new rules? No? Well, we've got 'em just the same! The Toronto Star kvetches that the "new rules don't talk about fight club." What's your beef with 'em? Or don't you have one? Are you excited to see this year's OTs decided with shootouts? Filled with dread at the prospect of re-explaining the offsides rule to your girlfriend just when she was starting to get it?
