McCarty Waived

After eleven years — his entire NHL career so far — the Red Wings have put Darren McCarty on waivers. Bill McGraw reflects sentimentally on the end of the well-loved grinder's long and prosperous stint in Detroit.

Red Wings assistant GM Jim Nill says McCarty's "a hardworking, roll-up-your-sleeves kind of guy. He's really what the city's all about. He came every night to play hard. He was a big part of our success."

Detroit also put Derian Hatcher and Ray Whitney on waivers.
